Palm Sunday History

The Sunday before Easter is known as Palm Sunday. On this day, palm leaves are distributed by the churches to the worshippers. It is celebrated for the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem the week before he was crucified and later, He attained resurrection.

The day is known as Palm Sunday because on this day, as Jesus rode on a donkey into Jerusalem, people laid palm branches on the roads. Nowadays, the celebration takes place with the procession, the Mass and singing in passion about Jesus Christ. The palm branches as per the Jewish ritual, is the symbol of victory and triumph. They are also saved and burnt for the services of Ash Wednesday in the following year.
